How the numbers work
The generator starts from typical UK summer water needs per square metre for each planting type, then adjusts for this week's weather and how fast your soil drains. Each growing area you add is worked out separately and totalled. Watering-can time assumes a 9-litre can filled, carried and poured; hose time assumes a spray gun where roughly half the water never reaches a root. Dripline run time assumes standard inline dripline delivering about 7 litres per square metre per hour.
