How to measure your outdoor tap flow rate
Every bespoke Bloomline blueprint starts with one number: how much water your tap actually delivers. Without it, you are guessing at pipe lengths, emitter counts and whether the far end of the bed will dry out.
The bucket test
Place a 1-litre jug under your outdoor tap, turn it fully on, and time how long it takes to fill. Divide 60 by the number of seconds to get litres per minute. A 10-second fill equals 6 litres per minute.
Test at normal pressure
Run the test when the house is using water normally — not when the washing machine is filling or another tap is running. You want the real-world flow your dripline will receive.
Why it matters
Dripline emitters release a set amount per hour. If your flow is 6 litres per minute, we know exactly how many metres of pipe and how many emitters your supply can feed without losing pressure at the end of the run.
The takeaway
